Yvette Cormier was shocked one day in 2015 to find a person looking like a man in the women’s locker rooms at Planet Fitness, her local gym.
She complained to the management but was told that the gym has a “no judgement” policy about gender identity and would allow anyone into the locker rooms of the gender they identified with.
After she continually returned to the gym to repeatedly warn other members that Planet Fitness violates her preconceived notions of the traditional understanding of gender, her gym membership was revoked.
So she did what any good old fashioned red-blooded American would do. She sued Planet Fitness.
Her case was rejected in January 2016 but now she is taking the fight to the Michigan Supreme Court.
“his is about me and how I felt unsafe. I should feel safe in there,” she told CNN in 2015.
